According to yesterday's statistics bulletin of the General Administration of customs, the total export volume of textiles and clothing in China was 96 billion 160 million US dollars from 1 to May this year, a decrease of 1.17% over the previous year (2.16% yuan in the year over year), a decrease of 8.8 percentage points over the first four months of the previous year (a 9.58 percentage point increase in RMB growth rate). Among them, the total export of textiles was 57 billion 950 million US dollars, an increase of 21.3% over the same period (25.5% yuan over the same period last year), and clothing exports totaled 38 billion 210 million US dollars, down 22.8% compared with the same period last year (20.3% in the year before RMB).

In May, the export of masks increased, and textile exports continued to maintain high growth.

In the month of May, China's textile exports amounted to 20 billion 650 million US dollars, driven by the strong export of masks. Textile exports increased by 79.2% over the same period last year (88% yuan year-on-year), and maintained a relatively high growth rate last month at 51% year-on-year growth rate.

According to official statistics, from March 1st to May 31st this year, China exported 70 billion 600 million masks and 340 million protective clothing to 200 countries and regions in the world. Customs data show that from 1 to April, the total export volume of masks in China was $8 billion 855 million, and the total export of protective clothing was $801 million. Mask has become an important support for our industry since the beginning of this year.

The two quarter export situation is still grim.

In May this year, China's clothing exports amounted to 8 billion 910 million US dollars, down 24.4% compared with the same period last year (20.7% yuan in the same period last year), a decline of 3.3 percentage points from the previous month, but the overall situation is still at a low historical level.

Demand for major international consumer markets continues to slump. For example, the retail sales of apparel and apparel in April dropped by 78.8%, down 89.3% from a year ago. It is expected that the export situation of our clothing will be more severe in the two quarter of this year.
