Sports brand Puma said that the company's sports shoes will bid farewell to the old shoe boxes, start using environmentally friendly packaging, and start the carbon emission reduction action before the government.

Puma said that the new packaging will be used in the second half of next year, and the sports shoes will be packed in recyclable shoes bags, which will save 8500 tons of paper, which is equivalent to the weight of more than 1400 adult elephants.

The company also said that this change means that the production process can save energy and water consumption by 60%, and because the packaging is more light, it will also reduce the carbon emissions in pportation.

But Puma executive Cai Ci (JochenZeitz) told Reuters that the new packaging will not save the company costs.

"First of all, we do not expect to save costs in this way," he said.

In the short run, it may even bring negative effects. After long term operation, it should be able to save costs. "

"Sustainable development is absolutely necessary and our enterprises should take corresponding responsibilities," he said.

We can't always wait for the government to order.

Enterprises should take the lead in action. We hope to become one of the forerunners. "
